Frequently Asked Questions
Is a DPO required in Singapore?
Yes. All Singaporean organizations, including sole proprietorships, must appoint a DPO to be responsible for ensuring that the organization complies with the PDPA. Foreign organizations that collect, use, or disclose personal data in Singapore, regardless of if the organization itself is established or registered as a company in Singapore, must also appoint a DPO.
Must the DPO be based in Singapore?
No. The appointed DPO does not need to be based in Singapore. However, the DPO must be reachable by individuals in Singapore.
Must my organization register our appointed DPO with the PDPC?
No. However, it is strongly encouraged. Organizations are required to appoint a DPO and make the DPO's business contact information available to the public. Registering your DPO with the PDPC would satisfy this requirement.
Can the role of the DPO be outsourced?
Yes. Organizations may outsource the DPO function to a service provider.
What communication options are included in the program?
Regulators and data subjects will be able to contact VeraSafe via a web form, phone number, and mailing address. These details, along with instructions on where to publish them, will be provided to you after your enrollment.
Can VeraSafe register my organization's appointed DPO?
Yes. If you appoint VeraSafe as your DPO, we can facilitate registration in accordance with the applicable requirements.
